Collins Language help centre

We have a wide range of frequently asked questions on this page (and adding more all the time). If you have a question that is not answered on this page, or in the other help and support sections, please contact support@collinsdictionaries.com.

I have an older edition of the Collins English Dictionary/Concise English Dictionary. Can I get an access code?

No. Free access to CollinsLanguage.com is a promotional offer. This promotion is only offered to customers who purchase either the 9th edition CED or the re-printed 6th edition Concise English Dictionary. The Concise re-print is a limited run. If your Concise Dictionary doesn't contain an access code, it is not eligible for our free access promotional offer.

I just bought a Collins dictionary last year. Do I really have to buy a new dictionary to access this site?

No, you do not. If you would like access to CollinsLanguage.com, you may subscribe in the store.

You can obtain 12 months online access for £14.99. Subscription will allow you to search the CED online, sign up for Word of the Day, and download the browser toolbars and Word button.

You can also purchase the Lite and Pro desktop dictionaries for £9.99 and £19.99, respectively. These applications will allow you to search the Collins English Dictionary on your PC – no internet connection required. We have versions compatible with Mac and PC.

I have a 9th edition Australian English Dictionary, but I can't find an access code on the jacket or title page. Where is it?

Check the fine print of your dictionary's title page, where the copyright information is. The access code will be at the bottom of the middle column, headed 'Acknowledgements'.

I registered to the site successfully, but did not receive an e-mail with my username and password.

Please make sure your e-mail spam settings will allow mail from collinsdictionaries.com, collinslanguage.com, collins.co.uk, and harpercollins.co.uk. If you have further trouble, please contact support@collinsdictionaries.com.

When I try to log in, the site says my password is invalid.

Many of our customers have mixed up letters and numbers when they type their passwords in manually. Please try copy-pasting your password from the registration e-mail into the login box. If you have further trouble, please contact support@collinsdictionaries.com.

Can I change my password to something easier to remember?

We will have a My Accounts feature up later this autumn. In the meantime, please keep the password we have sent you somewhere safe.

I bought a 9th edition CED and tried to register, but the site says I have an invalid code.

Please check your activation code and follow the prompts to the print bundle registration form on the My Account page. If you have further trouble, please contact support@collinsdictionaries.com.

I bought a re-printed 6th edition Concise Dictionary and tried to register, but the site says I have an invalid code.

Please check your activation code and follow the prompts to the print bundle registration form on the My Account page. If you have further trouble, please contact support@collinsdictionaries.com.

Do you have software upgrades available for Vista?

Unfortunately, not at this time. Many of our software and CD-ROM applications were published before Vista was launched, and therefore, before Vista development was viable. Some of our applications will run in Vista with compatibility mode set for an older OS. However, we cannot guarantee that all of our programs will work effectively this way. We are working to upgrade our most current applications and will put notice on the site when development is complete.

In the meantime, if you are a Vista user, please make use of the 10-day free trials offered on CollinsLanguage.com, to ensure our downloadable products will work with your system. Please also purchase CD-ROMs at your own risk, as these cannot be returned to most retailers once opened.
